For many Conservatives and libertarians, the character Ron Swanson in NBC’s Parks and Recreation is one who oftentimes speaks with much clarity. With a clear liberal bias on most major television shows and programs, it comes refreshing to many to see Swanson advocate for a limited role of government.
This sentiment has been documented by many, and as a result many within the liberty and conservative movements have used the character for memes, posters, etc. to promote their causes.
With this in mind, “Being Libertarian” put together a video including some of Swanson’s underlying political beliefs or philosophies. There are certainly a number of notable positions which he takes that can be seen in the video.
Some of those include calling the notion of building parks and community programs “horrifying,” proposing that the government cut expenditures “an even 40” rather than the proposed 32%, and a number of other significant anti government statements.
He also cracks a number of anti big government jokes. One of these jokes include: “The government in this town is excellent and uses your tax dollars efficiently.” Not only is there humor, but he also offers explanation of larger concepts including an explanation of what it means to be an American. “The whole point of this country is if you want to eat garbage, balloon up to 600 pounds, and die of a heart attack at 43, you can! You are free to do so. To me, that’s beautiful.”
