First of all, what are diversity statements?
Diversity statements have strong liberal undertones and have been a part of groups forcing people to think like them. While true diversity involves diversity of thought, this faux diversity liberals perpetuate is truly a fascist way to control people.
What are diversity statements doing in academia?
One can speculate that diversity statements are a method of progressive ideologues to “weed out” non-left-wing scholars. A report by the Oregon Association of Scholars states that universities are relying these so-called “diversity statements” to aid in faculty hiring and promotion.
What’s in a diversity statement?
There are many key components in academic diversity statements such as pledging to ensure white students don’t dominate class discussion, commit to LGBT visibility, and teach students “not to thoughtlessly reproduce the standard white and Western model of legitimate knowledge.”
Why is this important?
More than 20 universities have an official requirement for faculty to show a commitment to the values of “diversity, equity, and inclusion,” reports the Oregon Association of Scholars.
The University of Oregon has in place a standard that a faculty member’s teaching must “reflect the diversity of the field, including the racial, ethnic, and gender diversity of its scholars and practitioners.”
Additionally, the University of California system has a required diversity statement for all new hires and specific criteria to evaluate whether a scholar’s teachings adequately addresses “race, gender, economic justice or inequality,” according to the Oregon Association of Scholars’ report.
