In the past week, President Trump has made headlines for making bombastic claims via Twitter against former President Obama for wiretapping his phones during the campaign.

The reason for these claims to be made are not yet clear. He claims that he “just found out” that Obama had Trump’s phones tapped. Again though, he has not yet presented evidence of it. Although there may be some information that we don’t know about yet.

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) decided to weigh in on the controversy.

“I don’t think the FBI is the Obama team and I don’t think the men and women who are career prosecutors at DOJ belong to any team other than a blindfolded woman holding a pair of scales,” Gowdy said according to Politico. He’s referring to the personification of justice as a blindfolded woman patterned after the Roman goddess, Iustitia.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) also claimed that if the wiretapping was done illegally, it would be the “biggest scandal since Watergate” for Obama, but if the wiretapping was done legally, the same would go for President Trump.

Gowdy also emphasized that any FISA warrants that were issued against him are available to Trump. FISA is the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 which set protocols for legally gathering intelligence.
