After Super Bowl LI there is very little doubt that Tom Brady is the best quarterback to ever play in the NFL. He has won five Super Bowls in his seven trips to the biggest game. During his 17 year career he has thrown for over 60,000 yards, 456 touchdowns, and has completed almost 64% of his passes.
Tom Brady has found success in both the regular season and in the playoffs. He won the regular season MVP twice, Super Bowl MVP four times, and has been named to the Pro Bowl twelve times. Brady has also been named Offensive Player of the Year twice, Comeback Player of the Year once, and has led the league in touchdown passes four times.
Brady’s career certainly has had its controversy, with the main two being deflate-gate and his support for President Donald Trump.
Brady was initially suspended for four games at the start of the 2015 season for his role in deflate gate. Brady successfully appealed his suspension and was able to play at the start of the season. However, the NFL successfully challenged the ruling and Brady was forced to sit out the first four games of the 2016 season. Brady returned for the final 12 games and turned in one of the best seasons of his career. He threw 28 touchdown passes and only threw two interceptions. However, his performance in Super Bowl LI will go down as one of the greatest of all time, when he threw for 466 yards, two touchdowns, and completed 43 passes on 62 attempts.
Brady’s biggest criticism off the field has come from his support for President Trump. Brady and Trump have been friends for awhile and Brady even had a “Make America Great Again” hat in his locker during the season. Quite a lot of news coverage before the Super Bowl from the mainstream media was directed towards Brady’s friendship with Trump instead of the game. In the end, Brady got the last laugh as he led the Patriots to victory in the biggest comeback in NFL playoff history and what many will say is the greatest Super Bowl of all time.
The big lesson that all of us should take from the past year is this; Patriots will always win.
