“Nevertheless, she persisted.”
This is part of a quote given by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) when giving comments on the floor after Senator Elizabeth Warren’s apparent rule violation during a floor speech. This quote didn’t just stay on the Senate floor-it is now the title of Chelsea Clinton’s new children’s book.
Clinton is the daughter of former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee for president in 2016 who lost to President Donald Trump. The book will be titled ‘She Persisted’, and it will tell the story of 13 notable women in American history.
Clinton told Entertainment Weekly,
“I wrote this book for everyone who’s ever wanted to speak up but has been told to quiet down, for everyone who’s ever been made to feel less than.
The 13 women in ‘She Persisted’ all overcame adversity to help shape our country — sometimes through speaking out, sometimes by staying seated, sometimes by captivating an audience. With this book, I want to send a message to young readers around the country — and the world — that persistence is power.”
McConnell’s full quote came in response to Sen. Warren reading a letter from Coretta Scott King in a speech opposing Attorney General Jeff Sessions:
“Sen. Warren was giving a lengthy speech. She had appeared to violate the rule. She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.”
Clinton’s out of context use of this quote is not original. Since Senator Warren was reprimanded on the floor, radical feminists and liberals have taken, “nevertheless, she persisted,” and used it as a rallying cry across the country.
‘She Persisted’ will be available on May 30th.
