In an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Thursday night, actor Tim Allen criticized liberal Hollywood and its elitism.
Allen currently stars on the ABC show “Last Man Standing” and is conservative both on and off camera. During a conversation with Kimmel about attending Donald Trump’s inauguration, Allen described what it’s like to be a conservative in a career full of liberals.
“You’ve gotta be real careful around here. You get beat up if you don’t believe what everybody believes.”
“This is like ’30s Germany. I don’t know what happened,” he continued. “If you’re not part of the group, ‘you know what we believe is right,’ I go, ‘Well, I might have a problem with that.’”
While discussing Trump’s inauguration in January, Allen said,
“This government does stuff big. I’ve never been to anything like that. Just so many people, and when they show up, you know, the ex-president gets in a helicopter and there’s jets and Marines taking him this way and there’s parades, but it looks like a Cadillac parade, everything was just rows of Cadillacs. My kids were going, ‘Is this the parade?’ It’s like black Cadillac after black Cadillac and then a tractor.”
Allen is a rarity among Hollywood, being one of the only outspoken conservatives in a liberal-dominated profession. He was also one of few celebrities that spoke positively of Trump during the 2016 presidential election, saying that Trump “might be able to do the stuff that really needs fixing.”
He also described anti-Trump celebrities as bullies. Allen told former Fox News host Megyn Kelly last November on The Kelly File, “What I find odd in Hollywood is that they didn’t like Trump because he was a bully.” He continued, “But if you had any kind of inkling that you were for Trump, you got bullied for doing that. And it gets a little bit hypocritical to me.”
While being a conservative in Hollywood can be tough according to Allen, this does not stop him from speaking out against the political bias that goes on. Allen is not the only Hollywood star who has faced backlash from leftist peers. TV host Steve Harvey spoke out regarding the liberal bias among the Hollywood elite after he faced backlash for meeting with President Trump prior to the inauguration.
“So many of my so-called friends have just eaten me alive for going to meet with the president of the United States.”
Harvey also said that the angry response has been “mind-boggling to me, because if you understood what I was up there meeting about, you’d probably be quiet. But since you don’t, you just comment about it — you don’t understand.”
