There has been an ever increasing hostility on college campuses across the country towards speakers and individuals who hold conservative beliefs, especially those who have been supportive of now President Donald Trump.
As speakers like Milo Yiannopoulos and Ben Shapiro face massive protests at their speaking engagement, a message has certainly been sent to conservatives at colleges and universities across the country.
This type of resistance though has now extended to many who do not consider themselves conservatives, or supporters of President Trump. Just last week, students at Columbia University protested against the speech of an ambassador for Israel.

Now though, it appears these protests may have reached a new low. Students at the University of California San Diego are protesting the speaking engagement of the extremely uncontroversial Dalai Lama. The Dalai Lama is the leader of Tibetan Buddhism, he is viewed throughout the world as an extremely admired, peaceful religious leader.
Nonetheless, students are still protesting his engagement to give the commencement address at this year’s graduation. Their criticism comes as he is a Tibetan leader, who would like to see Tibet become more independent, this comes contrary to what the Chinese government would like to see happen.
The Chinese Student Association argued that the Dalai Lama represents “cultural oppression and a problem of equality.” Although Dalai Lama is an advocate for an increased level of independence for Tibet, he does not push for complete independence of the state. This is something which he has long pushed for in a peaceful manner.
In fact, the Dalai Lama was the 1989 recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for his peaceful protests and opposition against the Chinese, in favor of rights for the Tibetan people. Although these protests are now taking it place, it is highly unlikely that they will lead to Dalia Lama not delivering this year’s commencement address.
