Students at Lake Forest College, a private university in the north suburbs of Chicago are in a tizzy over the sighting of a Trump flag hanging from a student’s window. The sight of the flag even apparently bothered a student touring the school, according to a campus tour guide.
An article in the student newspaper The Stenton says controversy started when a student, Norma Vargas, posted a picture of the flag and wrote on Facebook “Not only does it discourage every single person of color on campus, but it lets us know the campus sides with the racist, fascist, sexist, homophobic, ignorant, xenophobic, misogynistic, white supremacy.”
In other words, an upset liberal student saw an opposing viewpoint and poof! The school is imposing authoritarian, white supremacist rule on its students.
One conservative student I spoke to though rejected Vargas’ contention; he told Hypeline News the school is not even “very political” and said the school does plenty of diversity outreach including work to “emphasize international culture.”
Since the news article came out, neighbors to the original Trump flag even put up their own flags in solidarity.
