Many people were looking forward to getting those shiny new Air Pods with their new iPhone 7s because they don’t have headphone jacks (and Apple doesn’t realize some people enjoy using their headphones while they charge their phone).
But you’re going to have to wait. Even though Apple promised a ‘late October’ release for them. In a statement to TechCrunch, Apple said the following.
“The early response to AirPods has been incredible. We don’t believe in shipping a product before it’s ready, and we need a little more time before AirPods are ready for our customers,”
These $159 wireless earbuds were expected to come out within the span of only a few short days, and while some people were looking forward to them, many people were not.
This is not the first time Apple has forced expensive changes on its users, as anyone with a new MacBook can attest (if you don’t know, the new MacBook only has only one type of port, and its a port almost no one has yet – good job Apple).
The sad thing is that the Air Pods are quite nice. They contain a dedicated “W1” chip that is supposed to make pairing and switching between devices much more easy and seamless.
Apple’s AirPods have generally been well received in early reviews with most criticism being aimed at the lack of volume controls without relying on Siri.
There’s no signal for how long to expect the delay to last, but I would be surprised if AirPods didn’t go on sale at some point in November. With that being said, AirPods will surely be supply constrained through the holiday quarter once available to purchase.
