In Venice Beach, California, people of all sorts gathered on Thursday morning to get their hands on the new Spectacles from Snapchat.

The video glasses went on sale with no notice beforehand in a bright yellow vending machine on the Ocean Front Boardwalk. It was strategically placed outside Snapchat’s original, but now outgrown, headquarters, which was a beach house overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

People waited in line for hours to have a chance at purchasing the Spectacles, however they quickly sold out before everyone could get their hands on a pair. Some people purchased several pairs before guards came to escort them and their Spectacles away from the Machine.

The vending machine will be moving to an undisclosed location at an undisclosed time. In fact, the only way to see where the machine is at is by checking the website here.

Smart entrepreneurs who happened to be in the right place at the right time are also trying to capitalize on their scarcity. Spectacles are already showing up on eBay, selling for as high as $950.

In late September, Snap renamed itself and announced Spectacles — camera glasses that can record up to 10 seconds of video, similar to Google Glass, the ill-fated attempt by Google in 2013 to get people wearing $1,500 computerized glasses that could surf the Web and record images.

Snap, which declined an offer from Facebook is grabbing more and more of the social media market share, even gaining more daily users than Twitter. This has also caused some competitors (Cough, instagram) to copy some of its features to lure users to their apps.
