“We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.”

These words from then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have been repeated time and time again since the passage of the Affordable Care Act.

Virtually every Republican campaign since 2010 has held repealing “Obamacare” as a central theme of their platform. Nancy Pelosi’s quote has been often cited as an example as to how President Obama’s healthcare law was “shoved” through Congress, without full knowledge of its impact.

Now though, Congressional Republicans appear to be concealing what exactly is included in the new legislation. Today, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) protested to express his dissatisfaction with the drafts of the new law being kept secret.

It has been reported that certain senior Republicans have been allowed to see the law. However, they have not been allowed to make copies or possess a physical copy of it. The vast majority of Republicans in Congress though have not been allowed to see the new legislation at all.

Senator Paul tracked down the room, H157, where the contents of the law were reportedly located. The room was protected by Capitol Hill Police. Also outside were about a dozen or so reporters hoping to get a glimpse of what was actually located inside the room.

Evidently, Paul also took a copy machine with him to the room, just in case he actually had an opportunity to get his hands on the bill. He has repeatedly stated that he will oppose any replacement which does not do away with virtually all of “Obamacare.”

Republican leadership has claimed the new legislation has not been made available because it is not yet ready. It is unclear why exactly these types of actions have been taken, it will be interesting to see what type of proposal is released.

What do you think? Should Rand Paul try to find out what is in the replacement bill? Do you want to see President Obama’s healthcare law repealed? Let HYPELINE News know what you think in the comments!
