On July 23rd, Nebraska punter Sam Foltz was fatally killed in a car crash in Merton, Wisconsin along with former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler.
During Nebraska’s first game on September 3rd, the Huskers honored Sam by using a 10-man formation on 4th down, leaving the punting position empty.
Oregon took a different approach before their game with Nebraska.
Oregon kicker, Matt Wogan, and head coach Mark Helfrich placed a bouquet of flowers at the 27 yard line to honor Foltz — Foltz wore the No. 27 jersey.
The two teams took to Twitter to post about the gesture:

Appreciate it @WinTheDay.

It’s always great to see these gestures in such a competitive atmosphere and just goes to show that it’s more than just football.
