A North Carolina high school teacher was caught stomping on am American flag during class. The teacher has since been placed on leave after the image surfaced on social media.
The Fayetteville Observer reported that Massey Hill Classical High School history teacher Lee Francis says he stomped on the flag as part of ‘a lesson about the First Amendment’.
Students in the classroom said Francis asked the class for a lighter or scissors, and when no one produced them, he put the flag on the floor and stomped on it. Francis was teaching a junior-level American History class with 26 students.

Fox News reports:
After a photo of him with his foot on the flag was posted on Facebook, Francis was informed by the school district’s human resources department that he would be placed on paid leave until an investigation is complete.
Francis said he is scheduled to meet with Cumberland County Schools system officials to discuss the incident.
“Clearly, there are other ways to teach First Amendment rights without desecrating the flag,” superintendent Frank Till said in a statement released Tuesday.
In a statement to the Fayette Observer, Francis defended his actions: “Not only was the demonstration warranted and justified based on the court, it’s warranted and justified in the rights we have. This is the law of the land upheld by the highest court. Freedom of speech is not just defined verbally by something you say or write down on paper, but something that can also be a physical action.”
