As if being able to kill your child on demand wasn’t reason enough to visit a Planned Parenthood clinic, Planned Parenthood’s Carol Whitehill Moses Center in the Washington, D.C. area is attempting to make people want to come even more by creating a Starbucks, Apple Store, Millennial vibe.
The $19.7 million dollar clinic opened last fall, and it was funded by private donations. Laura Meyers, CEO of Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington said that she wants the facility to stand out from the typical P.P. clinic. S
peaking to the attempt to create an atmosphere that draws people in, she stated:
“Some want to experience the space alone — sit with their laptop or phone. Others may want to experience it communally.”
Planned Parenthood’s website states that a variety of options will be available at this clinic, including abortions, birth control, HIV testing, LGBT services, men’s health care, the morning-after pill, pregnancy testing, and STD testing, treatment, and vaccines.
The clinic has a sleek look with security in mind; the front desk is built to be a safety obstacle, and objects around the building (including cacti) serve as potential weapons.
The waiting area has seating called ‘BuzziHubs’, which are couches that have walls enclosing all but the front, keeping noise enclosed and encouraging private conversations.
The waiting space also has a work station area channeled straight from Starbucks.
The entire upper level is reserved for staffers, and includes a glammed up kitchen and relaxation space.
The news of this swanky new clinic comes after Planned Parenthood’s president, Cecile Richards, insinuated that if the organization stopped receiving taxpayer money, clinic after clinic would have to close their doors. She said that defunding would leave people with ‘nowhere to go’.
Clearly, Planned Parenthood is doing just fine. Not only did they just open this clinic, but according to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, they’re absolutely self-sufficient and are able to operate without taxpayer money.
H.R.354, also known as the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2017 is still in committee. This could be the year we stop seeing abortion funded by the federal government.
