Auburn completed a 5-0 sweep of the Clearwater Spring Break Classic with a 9-4 win over LIU-Brooklyn Sunday morning.
Auburn’s game 2 had Makayla Martin picking up a 4-0 shutout over USF. She allowed 2 hits and struck out 4 she did allow 5 walks but was able to navigate past the walks without allowing any runs in a very impressive performance.
In Auburn’s game 3 6-2 win against Illinois Kasey Cooper picked up her 250th career hit. This made her one of two SEC softball players to have 250 hits and 250 RBIs in their career.
The biggest game of the weekend ended up being Game 4 where Auburn defeated Ohio State 8-0 in six innings by run rule. This wasn’t just any win for Kaylee Carlson however this was a perfect game only the second in school history.
Lastly in game 5 Auburn ended up taking this one 9-4 against LIU-Brooklyn. Makayla Martin started and closed the game throwing 4 scoreless innings allowing just 1 hit. Capping off some great pitching performances from Kaylee Carlson and Makayla Martin this weekend. Auburn’s offense was on fire in game 5 as well hitting two home runs and two triples.
Auburn returns to Florida next weekend for a three-game set in Gainesville against the 25-1 Florida Gators. Saturday and Sunday’s games will be televised on ESPN2. Monday’s Finale will be on SEC Network.
My Take: This was the first time I’ve ever seen any softball games in person and it was great. Makayla Martin is my favorite player and pitcher so it was great to see her as well as Kaylee Carlson in person. It’s not often you get to see a perfect game period so it was awesome to be in attendance to watch an amazing performance. Will be in attendance next weekend in Gainesville as well in what should be a great series.
