The 2017 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) is less than a week away! As thrilling as this is, sometimes packing can be hard, especially as a novice CPAC attendee. Knowing exactly what you need to bring can be a struggle.

Never fear! HYPELINE is here to help you out!

Here are seven things to pack for CPAC 2017:

Although there will be many people in jeans or some sort of patriotic get-up, young politicos would be better off dressing professionally. Guys, this means collared shirts, ties, and slacks or khakis. Ladies, dresses or blouses and slacks are your go-tos.

IMPORTANT NOTE: CPAC is NOT the conference to show off your five inch heels. The Gaylord is HUGE, and you’ll be doing a lot of walking. Do your feet a favor, and make sure to pack comfortable heels or wedges while also packing a pair of comfy flats for the end of the day.

The conference days are long, and while getting food out is worth it, everything is more expensive in the D.C. area. Since you’ll be buying pretty much all your meals, packing snacks that you can keep in your bag will keep you going all day along with helping your wallet out a bit. My go-tos are granola or protein bars and fruit.

Okay, so this may not be CRUCIAL, but CPAC puts out a lot of media each day. Trust me-you’re going to get tired of staring at your tiny phone screen. Whether you want it to take notes in the sessions (and trust me, you’ll want to take notes) or just to give your eyes a break when browsing later, a laptop is a great thing to pack.

Remember when I mentioned above that CPAC puts out a lot of media? Your phone battery is going to drain pretty quickly each day, whether it’s simply from scrolling or from live-tweeting and live-streaming the whole thing. Realize that being able to plug a wall charger in during the day is going to be unlikely, do yourself a favor, and pack a portable charger or battery pack.

When you’re at CPAC, you’re inevitably going to want to go into D.C. some evenings to check everything out. While you may want to look absolutely adorable, this is STILL not the time to break out those super high heels. Do yourself a favor and pack shoes you’ll be comfortable walking in because although you will probably Uber your way into the city, you’re definitely going to be doing some walking once you’re there.

CPAC is like a political networking paradise. From candidates to politicians to journalists, the biggest names in conservative politics will be there. Do yourself and your future career a favor, and pack some resumes and/or business cards so that you can quickly give an elevator pitch and leave the person of interest with your contact info and qualifications.
