When I say cardio, the first thing that popped into your head may have been a vision of long periods of time spent bored to tears as you ran on a treadmill. Never fear! You can get a great cardio session in WITHOUT using the treadmill.
HERE ARE FIVE DIFFERENT WAYS TO GET YOUR CARDIO IN:
1. STAIR CLIMBER
If you want to see serious results and work up a sweat quickly, the stair climber is for you. Although people look at it and feel as if all you can do on it is slowly climb stairs, there are so many options! I usually do interval training on it, but I have seen everything from HIIT to endurance training to jumps done on it. Search the web, and you’ll find all sorts of ways to utilize the stair climber!
I could sing the praises of HIIT all day long! Short, effective, and simple, HIIT, high intensity interval training, really is the full package. To get a great HIIT cardio session in, look up bodyweight and normal cardio exercises (examples would be high knees, burpees, or mountain climbers) and put them into a HIIT formula.
The perfect collision of cardio and strength, kickboxing will break you down just to build you up stronger! It’s a wonderful way to build muscle, get that heart pumping, and learn some self-defense skills. Also, such a great stress reliever-who wouldn’t want to go beat up on a bag after a hard day at work?
4. ROW MACHINE
For some time, row machines have been left in the back of the gym and ignored. Thankfully, they have been making quite an entry into the world of fitness as a versatile and useful machine. Working your muscles in a way no other machine really does, row machines are not only a great source of cardio, but they also switch things up for your body quite a bit.
When discussing cardio options, we shouldn’t leave classes out of the mix. Not all gyms and fitness centers offer classes, but if yours does, you should definitely check them out! From classes that are popular all across the country like Zumba to more gym-specific classes, working out in a group with an instructor who will push you is one of my favorite ways to get cardio in (and make friends as well).
