Gun sales are on the rise! More and more American citizens are using their 2nd amendment right to defend themselves.
Here’s 3 must know facts about gun sales in America:
1.) Gun sales hit the 17th consecutive monthly record in September.
According to FBI data released on Monday, gun sales have broken records for 17 consecutive months. With the months breaking records for gun sales, this means 2016 is on track to be the record year for gun sales.
Alan Gottlieb, who founded the pro-gun Second Amendment Foundation, said the political rhetoric combined with recent acts of terror and economic uncertainty have driven gun sales.
“These ongoing new monthly records reflect the concerns Americans have about crime, terrorism, economic turmoil and the political class gun prohibition attempts to disarm them,” Gottlieb said.”They are voting with their checkbooks and buying more firearms and ammunition.”
“People have a real fear about where we are headed.”
2.) A total of 1,992,219 background checks were processed through the bureau’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System for the month of September.
The most accurate measure on gun sales is the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) because all sales conducted through federally licensed firearms dealers must include one.
“Sales of handguns and AR’s have been very strong for the past two months. Hunting rifles have been about average for this time of year,” Scott Blick, a managing partner at Ammunition Depot, told the Washington Examiner. “Ammunition sales are definitely following that pattern with sales of 9mm ammo and .223 ammo being extremely strong.”
September’s total background checks is roughly a 7% increase from the record shattering month of August.
There has been a surprising spike in new gun purchases among a unique demographic — the LGBT community. Gun sales and gun rights groups membership among LGBT people continue to rise, which was initially triggered by the Orlando terrorist attack.
3.) We are on track to break last year’s 12-month record.
The last two months of the year are statistically the highest. According to FBI data, 3,314,594 Americans obtained a background check in December 2015, which is more than any other month. If the pace continues in 2016, December will again be the biggest month of the year — shattering last year’s 12-month record.
In his continuous efforts to increase gun control, President Obama has proved to be the most effective gun salesman. The sustained gun sales records is heavily correlated with aggressive gun control rhetoric from many politicians.
